Ibanez is a Japanese guitar brand dating back to 1929 when Hoshino Gakki began importing Salvador Ibáñez guitars from Spain. These were no longer available after the Spanish civil war so they bought the name and started making guitars themselves.
These days Ibanez manufacture guitars in Japan, China, Indonesia and in the United States (at a Los Angeles-based custom shop). They make nearly 165 models of bass guitar, 130 acoustic guitars, and more than 300 electric guitars
Steve Vai has a signature model as does Joe Satriani and a few others.
