Fender METEORA

This is a 2018 “Limited Edition” model which retails at approximately £1500 and apart from the crap name, consists of Telecaster Custom Shop pickups, a Telecaster bridge and a Jazzmaster style neck. Oh,and cute new logo on the headstock.

The body shape is designed for comfort with the Strat like relief for your arm and belly.  I have been trying to get a look at one for a while, but they don’t seem to be available in the UK currently. Maybe that will change after BREXIT, who knows.  Meanwhile I suppose I will have to organise a trip to the US to fulfil my curiosity.

Facebook & Fake Music Sites

Currently if you show any interest in guitars or music on Facebook you may see an advertisement for high quality guitars claiming to to be discounted.  These may seem too good to be true, and they are.

Take a look at an example ad. Continue reading

JMJ Mustang Bass

Another guitar “inspired” by an artist.  This one is a “road worn” model with a specification of Justin Meldal-Johnsen “signature.” He has played Bass for numerous artists, in particular Nine Inch Nails.

Personally, I like a short scale bass and this one in  Daphne Blue with a split-coil pickup, 30” scale and 9.5”-radius fingerboard with rolled edges seems to be ideal.

Ibanez Jem for Lefties

JEM-Vai

This “Lefties only” model (Lefties must like a colourful axe) is part of the Steve Vai 30th anniversary issue.  The HSH pickup layout has an interesting switch system.

Love to try it but I’m right handed.  Could be a new project.

Fender VG Stratocaster USA

A standard USA Strat with a Roland pickup and electronics.  Lots of different sounds.

Fender Mustang

Seen at the Guitar Show in Birmingham yesterday this new MIM version based on the classic Mustang “Offset” shape expands the range.  Retailing in the UK at around £490 for the single coil MP90 pickups with the more conventional single coil model a little cheaper. Continue reading

Fender Duo Sonic Reissue

First introduced in the 1950’s  this guitar came with a much shorter scale (22.5″) aimed perhaps at the younger player or people with smaller hands.  The body style, known as “Fender Offset” is similar to the Mustang. Continue reading

Nashville B-Bender Telecaster

You may have heard of the Nashville Tele with a Texas Special™  or normal Strat pickup in the middle position, and a five-way pick up selector but this instrument takes it a step further.  With the addition of a device linked to the strap button that enables a player to mechanically bend the B-string up a whole tone to C-sharp. Gibson Futura Models

In 2014 Gibson introduced Les Paul and SG models called Futura.  If you have not heard of them you are not alone.  I stumbled across one while in Spain. Continue reading
